Tenderfoot is where Scouting stops being talk and starts being practice. As a Scout, you learned the words — the Oath, the Law, the Outdoor Code. As a Tenderfoot, you put them to work: pitching a tent, tying a knot that holds real weight, treating a real scrape, testing your own fitness. This rank asks you to show what you can do, not just say what you know.

Building on the Last Rank

You already carry the basics from Scout rank — the Oath and Law, the Outdoor Code, three basic knots, pocketknife safety. Tenderfoot doesn’t retest those; it puts them to use in the field, on a real campout, under real conditions. Where a requirement here builds directly on something you covered as a Scout, this guide points back to that page instead of repeating it.
