Complete Scoutmaster conference

This is the last step before you earn the Scout badge, and it’s the first of many Scoutmaster conferences you’ll have on your way to Eagle — one comes at the end of nearly every rank.

What a Scoutmaster Conference Is

It’s a one-on-one conversation, usually 10 to 20 minutes, between you and your Scoutmaster (or another registered adult leader they designate). It is not a test with right and wrong answers. Your Scoutmaster already knows whether you can recite the Oath — they’re using this conversation to check that you understand what you’ve learned, hear how you’re doing in the troop, and find out if anything is getting in the way of your Scouting experience.

How to Prepare

• Have your handbook signed off for all six requirements before you request the conference.
• Be ready to talk about what you learned, not just recite it — expect questions like “why does the Scout Law matter to you?” rather than “say the Scout Law.”
• Think about your goals in Scouting, and be honest if something in the troop isn’t working well for you. This conversation is a real chance to say so.

Scout rank has no board of review — the conference itself, followed by the Scoutmaster’s approval, is what completes the rank. Starting at Tenderfoot, every rank adds a board of review after the conference, so this is your only rank without one.
