Explain patrol method and types

The patrol method is the idea that Scouts learn best in small groups they belong to and help lead, rather than as one large troop directed entirely by adults. Each patrol elects its own patrol leader, works together at meetings and campouts, and builds its own identity.

Most troops use a few different kinds of patrols. A new-Scout patrol groups first-year Scouts together, often with an older Scout assigned as a guide, so newcomers can learn the ropes without feeling behind more experienced members. A regular patrol mixes Scouts of different ages and experience levels who stay together as they advance. Some troops also run a Venture patrol for older, more experienced Scouts pursuing high-adventure activities like backpacking or climbing.
