As a Star Scout, demonstrate Scout spirit by living the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Tell how you have done your duty to God and how you have lived the Scout Oath and Scout Law in your everyday life.
Demonstrating Scout spirit at the Life rank reflects a mature embodiment of Scouting’s core principles. As a Life Scout, you are expected to be a servant leader whose daily actions demonstrate character, ethical decision-making, and genuine care for others.
Living the Scout Oath and Law as a Senior Scout
At the Life rank, Scout spirit is evaluated by how your actions influence the people and environments around you:
- Leadership by Example: How do you respond when a campout faces bad weather or when a plan changes unexpectedly? Remaining cheerful, patient, and helpful sets the tone for younger Scouts.
- Mentorship & Inclusion: Do you actively welcome new Scouts, ensure no one sits alone at troop meals, and encourage struggling patrol members?
- Everyday Integrity: At school, do you uphold academic honesty and stand up against gossip, exclusion, and bullying? At home, do you contribute positively to family life and support your parents and siblings?
- Digital Citizenship: Do you maintain respect, kindness, and safety in group chats, social media, and gaming communities?
Duty to God
Scouting America emphasizes that spirituality, ethical living, and reverence are central to personal character:
- Expressing Your Beliefs: Share how your faith tradition, spiritual practices, or personal convictions guide your moral choices and daily conduct.
- Concrete Examples: Describe specific practices such as participating in religious observances, showing reverence for the natural world during outdoor adventures, offering prayers or moments of gratitude, or engaging in acts of charity and kindness.
- Respect for Others: A Scout is reverent toward God and respects the religious convictions and spiritual expressions of others.
